Say You Will

Maybe it was the fact that I spent two summers working as a dock attendant/harbormaster where all the riggers and mariners listened exclusively to classic rock. Maybe it's the fact that I grew up in a rural part of nothern Michigan where you get about 8 radio stations, and the only two good ones are... classic rock. Maybe it's just that I have good taste.

But let me just reaffirm the fact that I Love Classic Rock.

Now, most of my favorite bands and artists of that era unfortunately either died in a plane crash, overdosed on drugs, or crashed their plane while doing drugs. Very few bands are still together, and those that are have packed on replacement after replacement of certain members to the point that I could be the bass player and no one would notice.

Except for Fleetwood Mac.

Though they did break up for a while there in the 80's and 90's, and Stevie Nicks went all Wicca and solo, and broke up with Lindsey and shacked up with Mick and then the divorce of the McVie's, but on a wonderful, wistful night in 1997, the band got back together.

They called it The Dance, and I loved every minute of it.

And now, the band is back on the road. Unfortunately, without my girl Christine McVie, but at least they didn't try to replace her.

When their tour was announced, I was thrilled. I now finally lived in a city where concerts happened all of the time. From a town where the Beach Boys playing at the Casino was Big News, I could now hit a concert of anyone any day of the week. And though I can't afford to go to many shows, I was determined to go to this one.

So I sent out a mass email to my friends to see who was interested.

And nobody was.

Not one single person emailed me back saying "The Mac is back! And I am there!" I did get about 13 "Not my cuppa, but have fun!"'s and I was depressed. I had no real wanting to go by myself, because you have no one to complain to about the opening band and when someone hands you a doobie, you've got no one to pass it on to. Also, as many extra people as you can get to remember where you parked the car is always handy. So, the concert passed me by and I tried not to look at the Staples Center sign as I drove by it in the surrounding weeks feeling as though something was lost.

Then this morning happened.

They announced that they added a date in Los Angeles to the end of their tour. And I wasn't about to let this opportunity pass me by again.

I am now the holder of two, count them TWO tickets to Fleetwood Mac's last concert on this tour on October 13th, and come hell or high water, a concert by myself or with a friend with actual taste, I'm GOING.

Now... Who's going with me?

"I look like Stevie Nicks!" -- Annabell, Freaky Friday "I look like STEVIE NICKS!" -- Amanda, Head Over Heels "AAAHHHG! I look like fuckin' Stevie Nicks!" -- Nancy, Sid and Nancy
